Cathie Black 'Fine' Following Ouster As NYC Schools Chancellor

Hours after she fled education headquarters, ex-Chancellor Cathie Black came home - and said she spent the afternoon shoe shopping.

Black, who was asked to leave her post after just three months Thursday morning, returned to her Park Ave. apartment and told a gaggle of reporters, "I'm fine, I'm fine."

The former magazine exec - seen walking out of Tweed Courthouse shortly after Mayor Bloomberg announced that Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott would replace her - also noted she picked up some new footwear, possibly to blow off some steam.

"And I went out a bought a new pair of running shoes today, so I'm off," she said.

After a tumultuous tenure, which ended with a dismal 17% approval rating and the departure of four deputy chancellors, Black insisted she had nothing but warm feelings about the nation's largest school system.

"It's been a great privilege to serve the city of New York and the mayor for three months," she said. "I have loved the principals, the teachers, and the kids."

And she applauded her successor, a former city school teacher who sent his kids to public schools.

"Dennis Walcott is a great guy," she said. "We have a wonderful relationship and I wish everybody the best."
